Planting daffodil bulbs
Daffodils are spring-flowering bulbs and can be planted from October to December. If you plant your daffodil bulbs in the autumn, you will enjoy the beautifully coloured flowers early in spring.
Different types of daffodils
We offer a wide range of daffodils. For instance, there are botanical wild-type daffodils, large- and small-cupped daffodils, trumpet daffodils and double flowered daffodils. Depending on which type of daffodil you plant, the flowers bloom from February to May. After flowering, you can safely leave the bulb in the ground. They will naturalise and multiply, so that you can enjoy even more flowers next year. To make your choice, you can use the filter; for example, choose the bulb size, the flowering period, the colour, group or height. Daffodil bulbs can be planted manually in the ground. But in case of mass planting, you can also opt for mechanical planting.
History of the daffodil
Just as with the hyacinth, the name of the daffodil also stems from Greek mythology. Narcissus, the son of a nymph, was a very handsome young man who fell so much in love with himself by the sight of his own reflection in a small lake that he could not stop staring for hours at this unattainable beauty and slowly withered away. Finally, the goddess of vengeance, Nemesis, turned him into a narcissus. The forward bending head of the narcissus resembles the forward bending head of Narcissus. The daffodil therefore stands for vanity and selfishness. The first daffodil, Narcissus tazetta, was brought to the Netherlands from France in 1561. Although the origin of the name of the daffodil is not positive, daffodils do carry a positive meaning. The daffodil is naturally associated with spring and therefore symbolises a new beginning.
