Planting Crocosmia - Montbretia bulbs and corms
Crocosmia bulbs and corms are planted in the ground in spring. The Crocosmia or Montbretia likes well-drained, slightly moist, humus-rich soil. A position in the full sun to semi-shade is suitable. The flowering period of the Crocosmia is from July to October. Round seed heads appear after flowering. You can leave the tubers in the ground during the winter.

History of the Crocosmia
The generic name Crocosmia is a composition of the Greek words 'krokos' or 'saffron' and 'osme' or 'fragrance'. This name refers to the strong saffron-like odour that dried leaves give off when dipped in hot water or rubbed between your fingers. The popular name Montbretia was the name of the first Crocosmia hybrid, Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora, a cross between Crocosmia pottsii and Crocosmia aurea. This hybrid was bred in France in 1879 by Victor Lemoine. The name Montbretia is a tribute to the French botanist Ernest Coquebert de Montbret.
