Planting lily bulbs

Plant the lily bulbs in the autumn, from October to December, or in the spring until April. Lilies like cool soil and a warm flower. But do plant outside the frost period, when the soil is not frozen. Lilies show their colours in early summer.

To make your choice, you can use the filter; for example, choose the bulb size, flowering period, colour, group or height. Lily bulbs can be planted manually in the ground. But for mass planting, you can also choose mechanical planting.

History of the lily

Originally, lilies were spread throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The white 'Madonna' lily (Lilium candidum) is the symbol of purity, virginity and chastity. Many paintings depict this lily for this reason. The French king Louis used the lily on his shield around 1150 as a symbol of his name (Louis or Loys) and power. In previous centuries, lilies were cultivated in monastery gardens as a raw material for medicines. The fragrant flower was used as a decoration in worship. Until well into the second half of the twentieth century, the cultivation of lilies remained limited. Lilies were mainly used as garden plants. New lilies were propagated from seed, often on small farms that combined cultivation with their other activities. Only after successful crossings, initially in the United States of America, did lilies suitable for the flower trade grow. The sale of lilies through the flower trade greatly stimulated this growth.
