Planting eucomis bulbs
The eucomis is a summer-flowering plant (except for one species, eucomis regia). Therefore the eucomis prefers a sunny spot in a normally drained soil. If you plant the eucomis in a pot, you can let it hibernate frost-free. Is the eucomis planted in the ground? In a place where it hardly ever freezes, this is not a problem as the eucomis tolerates some cold. If there is a chance of severe frost, it is advisable to dig up the bulbs and store them in a frost-free place. If the ground around the eucomis bulb freezes, the bulb will freeze too.

History of the eucomis
Eucomis means in Greek, eu: beautiful, and coma: hair or a bun, so a beautiful bun or nicely trimmed. This of course refers to the top of the plant. Originally, the plant comes from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
