Planting fritillaria bulbs
Fritillaria are spring-flowering bulbs and can be planted from October to December. The fritillary is at its best in moist soil in a sunny position. If you plant your fritillary bulbs in the autumn, you will enjoy the beautifully coloured flowers in the spring, in March, April and May. Some species, such as fritillaria imperials, have a hole in the bulb. The new stem grows out of this hole. When planting, tilt the bulb so that no water can flow into it, or surround it with sand so that the water can drain away.
Different kinds of fritillaria
We offer a wide range of fritillaries. Such as Fritillaria persica, Fritillaria imperialis, Fritillaria meleagris, and Fritillaria acmopetala. To make your choice you can use the filter; choose for example the bulb size, flowering period, colour, group or height. Fritillaria bulbs can be planted manually in the ground. But in case of mass planting you can also opt for mechanical planting.
History of the fritillaria
Fritillaria is native to Europe and North Africa as well as Asia and North America. The botanical name Fritillaria dates back to 1570 and comes from the Latin word 'fritillus' which means 'dice cup'. This refers to the shape of the flowers, and possibly to the variegated colour pattern that characterises many of the flowers. There are around 142 recognised varieties of the fritillary.
