Ordering hyacinth bulbs
Hyacinths are spring bloomers and can be planted from October to December. If you plant the hyacinth bulbs in autumn you will enjoy the beautifully coloured flowers in spring, around March and April.
Ordering hyacinth bulbs online
The hyacinth bulbs are available from August to December (increasing to January while stocks last). Of course you can already start landscaping and beautify your surroundings before the season starts. It is therefore possible to order flower bulbs online before the season begins, so you are assured of your preferred choice of hyacinth bulbs. The hyacinth bulbs are delivered in the right planting time! After you have placed your order, you will automatically receive an e-mail with an order confirmation. Different kinds of hyacinths
We offer single and double flowered hyacinths. Besides the well-known blue colour, the hyacinth is also available in various colours, such as white, purple, pink and yellow. The hyacinth guarantees the real feeling of spring. Plant the hyacinths stately together in one colour, or choose for garden planting in a looser whole by mixing the colours. Because of the pastel-like tints of the hyacinth you cannot go wrong! To make your choice you can use the filter; choose for example the bulb size, flowering period, colour, group or height. Hyacinth bulbs can be planted manually in the ground. But in case of mass planting you can also opt for machine planting. The hyacinth is also very suitable as a pot plant. Unlike tulip or daffodil bulbs, hyacinth bulbs do not withstand the cold as well. The hyacinth can freeze when there is frost shortly after planting. We therefore advise you to plant the hyacinth bulbs a little deeper, making sure there is at least 10 centimetres of soil above the bulb.
History of the hyacinth
The name hyacinth originates from Greek mythology. Hyacinthus was a prince of Sparta and a demigod. He was worshipped by the god Apollo. According to the stories, Apollo and Hyacinthus had a discus throwing contest. Hyacinthus was fatally hit by a discus. To prevent the god of the underworld - Hades - from taking the body, Apollo created a flower from Hyacinth's blood: the hyacinth. The hyacinth is a bulbous plant of the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The plant originates from the eastern Mediterranean. At the end of the 16th century, the ancestors of today's hyacinth, the wild Hyacinthus orientalis, were brought to the Netherlands. This was the beginning of Dutch hyacinth cultivation. In the 18th century, this flower made itself heard again. Madame de Pompadour, mistress of the French king Louis XV, loved the look and smell of this Dutch cultivated bulbous plant so much that she filled the palace and gardens of Versailles with it. The French elite hastened to follow suit, making the Dutch hyacinth extremely popular for a time.
